I am an avid reader of the work of Seth Godin. He writes a blog he publishes daily (http://sethgodin.typepad.com/) and has written many books. His latest book is titled The Icarus Deception: How High Will You Fly? Seth’s latest book is the inspiration for this blog post.
You may remember the story of Icarus from Greek mythology. Icarus was the son of master craftsman, Daedalus. The story told about Icarus is about his attempt to escape from the isle of Crete on a pair of wings that his father constructed made from feathers and wax. Icarus was warned not to fly too close to the sun for fear of the sun melting his wings. Icarus ignored his father’s warning and flew too close to the sun and the sun melted the wax sending Icarus to his death in the sea which today bears his name (Icarian Sea).
The less familiar part of the story is that Daedalus also warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sea lest the mist from the sea would weigh down his wings and he would crash into the sea.
Now that you know the full legend of Icarus, I have a quote from Michelangelo for you to consider:
