The Power of People and Books

The Power of People and Books

“It’s what you learn after you know it all, that counts.”

– Coach John Wooden

I am an extreme advocate of the concept of Lifelong Learning!  It is absolutely no coincidence that the most successful dentists are constantly learning how to better serve their patients. I have observed that dentists who are top achievers often pursue a balanced education combining equal parts clinical, business, and behavioral knowledge.

I recently heard it said that you can tell a lot about a person by the people they hang out with and the books they read. This concept strikes me as especially true in dentistry. Below are three dentists absolutely worth hanging out with and a link where you can find them:

  • Dr. David Hornbrook
David is one of my closest friends in dentistry and one of the most giving people I know. His passion and positive attitude are infectious. David is headlining the upcoming TBSE (The Best Seminar Ever) by the Madow Brothers in Las Vegas. Type in the word, Power in the promo code and get special pricing on attendance:     http://www.tbse.com/tbse-information/
  • Dr. Dan Fischer
Dan is simply amazing! If you have never heard him lecture, run don’t walk to a course soon!! His practical knowledge and LOVE for the dental profession is boundless. He will be in San Diego on December 16th. The course is free!!:     http://bit.ly/oOXVIJ
  • Dr. Frank Spear
Frank is an amazing educator. His ability to take complex concepts and make them understandable is a true gift. While his courses at The Scottsdale Center are legendary, consider his online subscription program as a great way to make the education accessible and affordable:     http://onlinece.speareducation.com/

Now, on to books. Many of you know that I am a voracious reader and enjoy reading from a variety of disciplines. Here is my list of ‘Top 5 books’ that can help you develop a ROCKING dental practice:

  • Everything is Marketing  by Fred Joyal

The rest of the books can be found on Amazon:

  • Good to Great by Jim Collins
  • The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey
  • Primal Leadership by Daniel Goleman
  • Tribes by Seth Godin

Consider hanging out with David Hornbrook, Dan Fischer and Frank Spear. Then immerse yourself in the reading list above with authors who each have a powerful message that can be immediately applied to your practice. Like he was with so many things, Coach Wooden was so right when he said, “It’s what you learn when you know it all, that counts.” Keep Smiling!
